Happy Holidays, Yogis!

Happy Holidays!  We hope you are all enjoying this holiday season. Don’t let the cold weather and holiday stresses get you down, allow us to keep you warm and active, at least for 90 minutes! We have loved seeing your smiling faces in class and enjoyed sharing the hot room with all of you this past year. As we look forward to 2011, we invite you to make it your healthiest year yet!

On behalf of all the teachers and staff at Bikram Yoga Rockville, I thank you for making our yoga community such a welcoming and warm environment.  It would not be possible without you, our incredible and dedicated yogis. We wish you and your family a happy, healthy, and safe holiday season.

Namaste,
Diana

PS - Thanks to who joined us at our gathering at Copper Canyon Grill!

So, What is the “Advanced Flow Class”
Is It Right for Me?

The flow class held on Tuesdays at 11:30am and Wednesdays at 5:30pm is a great complement to our regular Bikram series. Like a traditional vinyasa flow class, the series flows from one posture to the next and moves a little bit faster than the Bikram class. The class is 90 minutes and is conducted in the heat. The class emphasizes and builds more upper body strength, along with working on core, balance and flexibility.

The class is a great opportunity to shake things up and keep your yoga practice fresh. Some postures will be familiar and some will be new poses which will help you to uncover more of your potential. You will allow your body and muscles to move in different ways and ensure constant growth and change.

Some of the postures we do in class would be found in a level II/III class elsewhere and that is why we call it the ‘advanced’ flow. However, you are welcome to skip postures and only do what is right for you. If you have never done vinyasa flow class before, we ask that you practice Bikram for at least six months before trying the flow class to allow you better understanding of your body’s abilities and to build a base level of strength. Also, if you have any injuries we ask that you please refrain from taking the flow class until you are healed and healthy. Remember, you are responsible for your own well-being.

We encourage you give the class a try but if you still have questions or concerns, please speak to Diana or Debby at the Studio.

Katie is Back to Visit from San Francisco!

Posture Clinic: We Need Your Feedback!

We are trying to gauge interest in another posture clinic. Please let us know at the front desk if you would be interested in attending and when would fit your schedule the best i.e., weekend vs. weekday. During our posture clinic, we will have in-depth discussions on each posture and have a Q&A session, etc.

Newest Yogis!

Congrats to our beloved teacher Nina Wang and her husband, Norman, on the birth of their son, Nikko.

Nikko was in such a rush to meet his parents that he came out 6 weeks early! We miss you, Nina and can’t wait to meet the little man when you come home.
Congrats to our resident police officer, Steve Pascali and his wife, Donna, on the birth of their daughter Giovanna. Steve, after you get some sleep, come back to the hot room. We miss your smiling face!

Got the Sniffles?

Stay home! If you are under the weather, please stay out of the hot room for a few days until you are 100% healthy. Your fellow yogis and teachers will thank you and you will recover faster as you rest at home.

Testimonial Kevin Mattison

I’m 51 years old as of December 16th, 2010 and I began my lifelong, yes, I’m committed, Bikram Practice, in earnest, on October 1st, 2008.

I’m usually in another state or country once a month where I’ve sought out Bikram Studios so that I could “ENGAGE” while abroad. I’ve been everywhere from Oahu, to Santa Barbara, to Orlando and even to the Bikram Headquarters in Los Angeles to name a few. I found that the Rockville studio is the cleanest, most odor free, greatest energy, sweat box, I’ve ever experienced not to mention the best group of teachers I ever had in the area.

My athletic career began formally at age 10 and continued through my second undergraduate year.  My informal study of traditional Martial Arts began inconsistently at age 12 and continues to this day. I’ve tried Iyengar, Ashtanga, Kundalini, and various Vinyasa combinations, however, Bikram resonates most with me; physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually!  Through my Bikram practice, I’ve experienced incredible health advancements coupled with increased daily focus, caloric demand, and nutrient processing.

Since I started Bikram practice, I have increased my cardiovascular volume, efficiency, and performance.  I’ve also healed a groin pull, misalignment of my left hip due to the groin pull, muscular atrophy of the right calf and tissue adhesions from achilles surgery in 2005, sprained toes in 2009, lower back pain, occasional restless sleep, collateral damage from a 2009 left shoulder dislocation, tinnitus, and a twisted right knee.

I thank all of you at the Rockville studio for your expertise, energy, smiles, laughs and sweat.
